14 new FOIA court documents, plus case descriptions

We have added 14 documents from 3 FOIA cases filed between April 19, 2015 and April 25, 2015. Note that there can be delays between the date a case is filed and when it shows up on PACER. If there are filings from this period that have yet to be posted on PACER, this FOIA Project list may not be complete.

  1. WADHWA v. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS (filed Apr 20, 2015)
    Dom Wadhwa submitted a FOIA request to the Department of Veterans Affairs for records concerning employment discrimination charges against himself and two other non-Caucasian doctors. Wadhwa alleged he had made multiple requests for the records but the agency had failed to provide him with the information he sought. He then filed suit.

  2. Mabie v. Alton City Jail et al (filed Apr 22, 2015)
    William Mabie made a request to the Alton, Illinois jail for records of phone calls made by or on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Service concerning Mabie. Employees at the Alton jail refused to provide the records. Mabie then filed suit. Although he does not have a cause of action against the Alton city jail, he may have a cause of action against the U.S. Marshals Service.

  3. Piccone v. Lee et al (filed Apr 23, 2015)
    Louis Piccione, a patent attorney, submitted a FOIA request to the Patent and Trademark Office for records concerning its complaint against him for the unauthorized practice of law. Piccione had become involved in trying to change child custody laws in several states and had represented clients pro bono. PTO responded by providing some documents but withholding or redacting others. Piccione appealed and PTO upheld its initial denial. Piccione then filed suit
