Case DescriptionThe law firm of Messner Reaves, representing the Steadman Clinic, an orthopedic clinic in Vail, Colorado, submitted a FOIA request to the Department of Health and Human Services for records concerning the agency's investigation of a violation of HIPAA that took place at the Vail Valley Medical Center in March 2011. The law firm contacted the agency concerning the status of its request. It then appealed the agency's delay in responding. Finally, after hearing nothing further from the agency, the law firm filed suit.
