BADER FAMILY FOUNDATION v. CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION and 15 other new FOIA lawsuits

  1. BADER FAMILY FOUNDATION v. CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION (filed May 13, 2024)
    Bader Family Foundation submitted a FOIA request to the Centers for Disease Control for records concerning the CDC Community Violence Prevention Resource for Action created or updated since July 15, 2023. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request. After hearing nothing further from the agency, the Bader Family Foundation filed suit.

  2. IMMIGRANT INVESTORS ASSOCIATION, INC. v. UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION SERVICES (filed May 13, 2024)
    Immigrant Investors Association submitted two FOIA requests to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for records. The first FOIA request asked for records for a Source of Funds from Unlawful Entities Working Group. The second request was for guidance on EB-5 visas in USCIS’s Consolidated Handbook of Adjudication. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request but after hearing nothing further from the agency, IIA filed suit.

  3. LADER v. UNITED STATES TREASURY DEPARTMENT et al (filed May 13, 2024)
    Daniel Lader submitted a FOIA request to the IRS for records concerning 26 C.F.R. 301.6511(b). The agency acknowledged receipt of the FOIA request. After hearing nothing further from the agency, Lader filed suit.

  4. IMMIGRATION REFORM LAW INSTITUTE v. U.S. IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT (filed May 14, 2024)
    Immigration Reform Institute submitted a FOIA request to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for records concerning emails that mention “Red Notice” or INTERPOL. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request. The agency asked for clarification. IRI provide clarification. After hearing nothing further from the agency, IRI filed suit.

  5. JUDICIAL WATCH, INC. v. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (filed May 14, 2024)
    Judicial Watch submitted a FOIA request to U.S. Secret Service for records concerning emails sent to listed officials about the Biden’s family dog. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request. The agency told Judicial Watch that a search had been conducted but after hearing nothing further from the agency, Judicial Watch filed suit.

  6. LANIER LAW FIRM v. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES et al (filed May 14, 2024)
    Lanier Law Firm submitted a FOIA request to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid for records concerning the global resolution model of Medicare liens. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request but after hearing nothing further from the agency, Lanier Law Firm filed suit.

  7. GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY & OVERSIGHT v. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (filed May 17, 2024)
    Government Accountability and Oversight submitted a FOIA request to EPA for records concerning emails for five officials containing certain keywords. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request but after hearing nothing further from the agency, GAO filed suit.

  8. GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY & OVERSIGHT v. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF STATE (filed May 17, 2024)
    Government Accountability and Oversight submitted a FOIA request to the Department of State for records concerning emails sent or received by the Envoy for Climate Change during a particular timeframe. GAO also requested a fee waiver. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request but after hearing nothing further from the agency, GAO filed suit.

  9. LANIER LAW FIRM v. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES et al (filed May 17, 2024)

    Trustees of Princeton University submitted a FOIA request to the Department of Education for records concerning the agency’s investigation of Princeton after the killing of George Floyd. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request. After hearing nothing from the agency, Princeton filed suit.

    Informed Consent Action Network submitted a FOIA request to the National Institute of Health for records concerning emails sent or received by Anthony Fauci and/or Peter Marks during a certain time frame containing the listed items. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request but after hearing nothing further from the agency, ICAN filed suit.

  12. Abegaz v. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (filed May 17, 2024)
    Adane Abegaz submitted a FOIA request to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for records concerning his entries and exists involving the CBP. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request. After hearing nothing further from the agency, Abegaz filed suit.

    Rick Schlotzhauer submitted a FOIA request to the Department of Justice for records concerning his interactions with the Drug Enforcement Administration. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request but after hearing nothing further from the agency, Schlotzhauer filed suit.

    Texas Civil Rights Project submitted a FOIA request to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for records concerning the death of A.D.R.A. The agency acknowledged receipt of the request. After hearing nothing further from the agency, TCRP filed suit.
