Case DescriptionJudicial Watch submitted two FOIA requests to the Internal Revenue Service for records concerning allegations that several agency employees had urged taxpayers to vote for President Obama in violation of the Hatch Act. The agency acknowledged receipt of the requests and several weeks later denied Judicial Watch's requests by indicating that records pertaining to alleged violations of the Hatch Act were considered personal records rather than agency records. Judicial Watch filed an administrative appeal and the agency upheld its original denial. Judicial Watch then filed suit.
